Practical Support for Your Organisation
I provide technical adviser and technical expert support for organisations delivering hill walking, mountain walking, single-pitch rock climbing, gorge walking and abseiling.
My work helps providers review their activity arrangements, develop staff competence and put practical safety procedures into use. I also bring experience supporting neurodivergent people and people with physical disabilities, helping organisations consider individual needs alongside the demands of the activity.

Supporting Inclusive Outdoor Activities
Planning an activity involves understanding both the environment and the people taking part.
I work with organisations to consider how activity design, venue choice, communication and supervision can support participation by people with additional needs.
Drawing on my experience supporting neurodivergent people and people with physical disabilities, I help teams explore practical arrangements that reflect participants’ interests and support requirements, alongside staff competence and the risks involved.
Advice is specific to your provision and the people you support.
Risk Assessments and Operating Procedures
I review and advise on the documents that underpin your walking and climbing activities, including:
Activity risk assessments.
Operating procedures.
Emergency action plans.
Venue selection and activity boundaries.
Equipment arrangements.
Supervision appropriate to the group, environment and staff competence.
The aim is to help your team work with procedures that are clear, proportionate and useful in practice.
Staff Competence and Development
I support organisations in reviewing staff qualifications, experience and deployment for their activities.
Depending on your requirements, this can include staff observation, mentoring and assessment within an agreed scope, together with recommendations for training, continuing professional development and supervised practice.
This helps identify what staff are ready to deliver and where further development would be useful.
Technical Advice for AALA Licensed Provision
For providers working within the Adventure Activities Licensing Scheme, I offer technical advice to support competent delivery and safe systems of work within my agreed activity remit.
This can include reviewing documentation, staff competence and activity arrangements, and helping your organisation identify areas for improvement.
My role is advisory. Licensing decisions remain with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, and your organisation retains responsibility for its operations and legal duties.
Reviews and Ongoing Support

An annual technical review.
Document reviews as required.
Scheduled site visits and staff observations.
Consultation by telephone or email.
Advice following relevant incidents or near misses.
Reviews when staffing, venues, equipment or procedures change.
Following a review or observation, I provide feedback to help your team identify practical next steps.
